Obituary

On this day, March 31, 2011, Wilba Jean Jamison "Toots" Curtis, age 72, surrendered her mortal life in exchange for Eternal life to dwell in the house of the Lord forever. She was born in Jackson County on June 20, 1938 to her parents Edgar and Hilda Jamison. Left to mourn, and to cherish their memories of her are her husband, George Edward Curtis; son, Dale Edward Curtis and his wife Kelley Curtis and all the Curtis and Jamison families. She has four sisters, Mary Vachon, Minnie Bryson, Ann Webb and Jessie Griffith and two brothers, Eldon and Lonnie Jamison who survive. Amanda and Brandon Williams, great niece and great nephew, were more like grandchildren who spent their childhood with her. "Toots" and George were married on April 5, 1959.

After graduating from Glenville High School, she moved to Franklin to work in the Burling ton hosiery plant. She also worked in Perry's drug store for a short time. She worked for several years for the Macon County Program for Progress in the Head/Home start program. Here she met many people who became her close friends. Her last job was with the US Forest Service at the Coweeta Hydrologic Laboratory, in Otto, NC as a laboratory technician. All the people at Coweeta were special friends of hers whom she loved and talked about almost daily.

She grew up in the Norton section of Jackson County and was a member of the Yellow Mountain Baptist Church. After marriage she joined the Asbury United Methodist Church in Otto. "Toots" was a dedicated member of Asbury. She loved music and singing in the choir and she was kindergarten teacher in church for a number of years. She also served as a Den Mother for the boy scouts. She was Dale's, Amanda and Brandon Williams' character guidance teacher when they grew up. "Toots" was also known as one of the best gourmet cooks in the county.

She will be missed greatly and her memory is blessed.

The funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home in Franklin at 2:00 p.m. April 3, 2011. Interment will follow the service in Rush Cemetery in Otto. A fellowship meal for friends and family will be held at Asbury UMC following both services.

The family will receive friends at Macon Funeral Home from 6-8:00 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2011.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Williams, John Edward Bryson, Richard Bumgarner, Joey Curtis, Eddie Williams and Dale Curtis.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Asbury UMC fund for the Relay for Life, South Macon Charge, 1195 Brown Road, Otto, NC 28763, a charity dear to "Toots".

Macon Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
