Obituary

Virginia Penland Watts, 90, of E. Hickory Knoll Community, passed away Saturday, June 2nd, 2012 at the family homestead where she was born.

A native of Macon County she resided in Birmingham, AL for 40 years with her husband and two sons, returning to Hickory Knoll in 1985 for retirement. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence S. and Gorda Stiles Penland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Watts who died in 1991 and two brothers, Billy G. Penland and Hoyt R. Penland.

Virginia served her country during WWII, working on naval ships in both Newport, VA and Vellejo, CA, where she met her husband. Virginia enjoyed flower gardening, feeding the hummingbirds from her front porch and making the best cornbread anyone could ask for. She was a member of Prentiss Church of God.

She is survived by two sons, Stephen Watts of Birmingham, AL and Christopher Watts of Lawrenceville, GA; two grandchildren, Blake W. Watts and Joel P. Watts and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 6 in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Don Moffitt will officiate. Burial will be in the Rush Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, at Macon Funeral Home.
