Virgie Collier Carpenter, 89, of Franklin, passed away Monday, April 9, 2012.
Born in Macon Co, she was the daughter of the late William T. Collier and Bertha Louise Anderson Collier. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, DJ Carpenter who passed away June 12, 1999; son, Duel Carpenter and great granddaughter, Morgan Hedden. Virgie worked many years as a florist at West Florist and later became partner of Franklin Florist. In later years, she worked with the Elder American Program of the US Forest Service.
She is survived by her son, Gary Carpenter and wife Vickie of Brevard, NC; daughter-in-law, Emma Lee Carpenter Lovett of Franklin; four grandchildren, Kim Hedden, Valerie Norton, Misty Parker and Justin Carpenter; five great grandchildren, Luke, Blake, Regan, Olivia, Lauren and Andrew and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, April 12th in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Reeves will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Justin Carpenter, Barry Hedden, Steve Norton, Darren Parker, Kenneth Bingham and Byne Bingham. Blake Hedden and Regan Parker will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.
