Obituary

Velma Peek Newton Taylor, God sent an angel down to beautify His earth and to love and serve others in their needs. Velma was born in Scaly Mountain, NC, May 19, 1913, and went to be with her Lord November 18, 2009.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Philip A. Newton, and her precious daughter of 1 ½ years, Martha Frances Newton, her parents, I.T. and Charlotte Peek; sisters, Alba Franks and Meda Bryson of Franklin, NC.

She is survived by her present supportive husband of six years, Willie N. Taylor; one son, Philip A. Newton, Jr.; two daughters, Sandra Sale (Fred), and Mary Lynne Spivey (Rodney); two stepdaughters, Jeanne Feals (Sonny) Linda Moore (Barry); seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her loving sister, Merle Dryman of Franklin.

Velma was the ideal role-model whom all the women in our family, and many others, looked up to in her immeasurable patience, acceptance and love of others. We'll miss her dearly, but we'll always be thankful for smiles, hugs, and her extraordinary life that we were privileged to share.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 3 pm Monday, December 28 in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Fred Sale, son-in-law, Panama City, FL and Rev. Jim Dusek , First Baptist Church will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 2-3 pm Monday, prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to First Baptist Church, 69 Iotla Street, Franklin, NC 28734.

Macon Funeral Home is in charge of the local arrangements.
