Mr. Lester Thomas "Tommy" Stinson, 67, of Lancaster, SC, passed away Monday, January 4, 2016 at Springs Memorial Hospital.
He was born January 13, 1948 in Sylva, NC, a son of the late Earl Garland Stinson and Elva Leah Carpenter. He was a member of Maidens Chapel of Franklin, NC. He was an avid racecar owner, driver, mechanic and builder and was great at every aspect of racing. He was a heavy equipment operator, specializing in motor graders and backhoes. He also was a truck driver and loved to take family with him on trips. He loved fishing, playing his guitar and singing. He graded Lancaster Motor Speedway every Saturday before the race. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
Mr. Stinson is survived by two daughters, Tammy Earlene "Bo" Stinson Crowley of Fort Mill, SC and Tina Marie Sitterson and her husband Rodney of Franklin, NC; his companion, Melinda McDonald of Lancaster; and his brothers and sister, Junior Stinson, Jimmy Stinson, Susie McConnell all of Franklin, NC and Timmy Stinson of Spartanburg; grandchildren, Nicholas Sitterson, Cody James Walden, Leah Sitterson, Kaden Robinson, Breana Helms, Tyler Baker, Brenton Baker, Alex Baker, Railey Baker and great grand-daughter Braelynn Baker; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua Mitchell Crowley.
A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Mr. Stinson will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 17, at Maidens Chapel United Methodist Church.
