Obituary

The Rev. Thomas Craig Redfern, 77, died Sunday, Feb. 5 at his home in Highlands, NC. He was born April 4, 1928 in Winston-Salem, son of Dr. Thomas Craig Redfern and Dorothy Faucette Redfern. He attended public schools in Winston-Salem and completed high school education at Darlington School in Rome, GA. He received an undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina in 1948. He enlisted in the Marine Corp completing his enlistment as a Captain. He worked briefly for Chatham Manufacturing Co. He attended the Episcopal Theological Seminary in Cambridge, MA and received a Doctor of Theology. As a Parish Priest he served as an assistant to the clergy at Calvary Episcopal Church, Cincinnati, OH, Assistant Rector at the Church of the Ascension, Clearwater, FL, Rector, St. Wilford, Sarasoto, FL and St. Matthews, St. Petersburg, FL. He retired from St. Matthews in 1993 and moved with his wife to Franklin in 1995. He is survived by his wife of 48 years M. Sondra Skidmore Redfern and three daughters: Anne Drane, Katherine Lindsay of St. Petersburg, FL, and Susan Bolenbaugh of Franklin, TN, six grandchildren: Michael Jackson, Craig Jackson, Jason Hickson, Tommy Hickson, Lauren Bolenbaugh and Paige Bolenbaugh, two great grandchildren: Lance and Hunter Jackson and a sister, Dorothy Redfern, Clemmons, NC. A memorial service will be held at St. Agnes Episcopal Church, Franklin, NC at 4 pm, Saturday, Feb. 11. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to the donor's choice. Condolences can be sent to the family at 56 Joe Pye Trail, Highlands, NC, 28741. Arrangements are being made by Macon Funeral Home, Franklin, NC.
