Obituary

Steve W. Higdon of Franklin, NC passed away Saturday, September 7, 2013; four days short of his 73rd birthday.
Steve was born on September 11, 1940 in Higdonville, NC to the late Theodore Higdon and Pearl Coggins Higdon. Steve grew up in the Higdonville community and at the age of 18 went out West to California, to work in the logging industry. He lived in the Petrolia, CA area for 12 years where he worked in the Redwoods along the Coast as a professional timber faller. He loved to talk about his time there and go visit whenever possible. Steve returned to Franklin, NC and married the love of his life Linda Holland Higdon on May 9, 1971. They had two children, Brock and Heath Higdon. Steve owned a telephone contracting & excavating business for many years. He also started logging again which is what he had a passion for. Steve also enjoyed his dogs and cattle. He loved watching the cattle graze out in the pasture. Steve enjoyed working. He would spend summers in Montana helping his son Brock put up hay and work on the irrigation ditch. He often helped his son Heath with grading and logging. Steve was a loving husband, father, and friend. He enjoyed aggravating and playing tricks on his two daughters in law. He attended Franklin Covenant Church and loved the Lord. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. He was known for giving to and helping people in need. He is survived by his wife of 42 years Linda Higdon of Franklin, two sons Brock Higdon & wife Geraldine of Roberts Montana, Heath Higdon & wife Estella of Franklin. One brother Teddy Marshall Higdon & wife Shay of Franklin and one sister Lawana Patterson of Clarksville GA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sept. – 10th from 6 to 8 at Macon Funeral Home. The funeral will be held on Sept. – 11th at Franklin Covenant Church at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow at Higdonville Baptist Church Cemetery.
