Stephen Edwin Long, 57, of Whittier, NC, entered into rest on Sunday, January 23, 2005.

A native of Winston Salem, NC, he was the son of Cleo Caudle Long of Winston Salem, NC and the late George Long. Stephen was the manager of Peoples Department Store for many years and owned and operated Stephen's Emporium in Waynesville. Stephen wrote numerous articles for the Franklin Press including columns, This Side of Heaven and Macon People. He wrote devotions for Smythe and Helwys Publishers. Stephen was a producer and actor for the Overlook Theatre. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesville and was an avid golfer.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two children, Jason Stephen Long of Greenville, SC and Lori Echevarria-Long and husband Andrik of Franklin; one sister, Susan McClellan of Winston Salem; one niece; two great nephews and special friend Carolyn Blanton of Whittier.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, at First Baptist Church, Franklin. Rev. Harold Ball, Rev. Randy Gardner and Rev. Harold Strader will officiate. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 25, at Macon Funeral Home.
