Stanley Edward Penland, 77, of Franklin, passed on to his Heavenly home on Wednesday, May 14, 2008.
Mr. Penland was born in Clay County in 1930, and moved to Macon County in 1942. He was the son of Jessie Bayse Penland and Alva Henson Penland. He was co-owner and later owner of Riverbend Dairy Farm in the Iotla Community for 36 years. He was formerly employed by the U.S. Forest Service, Van Raalte and Burlington Industries. Mr. Penland was a member of Iotla Baptist Church for more than 60 years where he served as a deacon, Sunday School superintendent and teacher. He was a former supervisor of Macon Soil and Water Conservation District, a committeeman for Macon County Agricultural and Stabilization Committee and a committeeman for Farmer's Home Administration.
Mr. Penland is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Tippett Penland; one daughter, Vickie Penland Donaldson and husband Gene of Franklin; one son, Stanley Edward Penland Jr. and wife Carmen of Franklin; four grandsons, Chris Donaldson of Greenville, SC, Justin Donaldson and wife Peggy of Athens, GA, Brandon Penland of Sylva, NC and Dustin Penland of Arden, NC; three brothers, Neal Penland of Waycross, GA, James Howard Penland of Dallas, TX and Melvin (Pete) Penland of Franklin; two sisters, Kate Penland Crawford of Franklin and Martha Penland Parris of Greenville, SC.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Iotla Baptist Church. Rev. Steve Reeves, Rev. Jeff King and Dr. Simeon Martin will officiate. Burial will be in the Iotla Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 9:30-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Lynch, George Lynch, Tommy Bennett, Terry Breedlove, Tony Ledford and Mike Breedlove.
Members of John Campell Sunday School Class, deacons of the church and Don Conway will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
