Sophia Barden, 89, of Franklin, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2003, in a local nursing home.
Born in Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of the late Leon Michael Buyukas and Alkmene Kyrometes Buyukas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Albert Edward Barden, Jr. who passed away in 1994, and a brother Michael Leon Buyukas who passed away in 2001. She lived in Florida and eventually moved to Franklin in 1975. She was a hairdresser, homemaker, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her son, Richard Barden of Franklin; daughter-in-law, Linda Barden of Franklin, NC; one granddaughter, Michele and husband Kevin Kussow and great grandson, Rion Kussow all of Otto; two sisters, Mary Sedivec of California, and Diana Alcorn of FL; sister-in-law Kay Buyukas of New Jersey; four nephews; three great nephews; two great nieces; and several other very special people who are considered a part of her family including, Gayle and husband Cameron Linde and their son Hunter Linde all of Kernersville, NC, Amber Marie, Lucia Margaret, Christian Patrick and Madelyn Claire all of Franklin.
A Memorial Service was held at 6 p.m. Monday, December 8, 2003 in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Jim Fouts officiated.
