Sara Anna Smithdeal Wadsworth, Born December 24, 1920 in Cleveland, North Carolina. Sara passed away July 10, 2007, at her daughter's home in Franklin, surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her husband Walter.
Married Walter Earl Wadsworth, August 18, 1940, and for 23 years was the exemplary naval wife, packing and moving the family of four up and down the East Coast of the United States and the Panama Canal Zone. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader for five years in Norfolk, Virginia; Jacksonville and DeLand, Florida. She moved, a final time, to DeLand when her husband retired from the Navy in 1959.
Mrs. Wadsworth was an active member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, in DeLand, where she served on Altar Guild, St. Clare Guild and Episcopal Church Women.
A devoted garden clubber, she was a member of Ivy, Violet and Hibiscus Circles of the DeLand Garden Club and worked in all facets of garden shows, winning many awards in both arrangements and horticulture. She was a charter member of the Cultural Arts Center Museum Guild and a member of the American Home Department of the Women's Club of DeLand.
Mrs. Wadsworth shared many friendships across the United States--people met on their tours of duty and travels--and was known for being especially fond of cocker spaniels. She enjoyed reading, photography, NASCAR, and plain dirt gardening. After traveling worldwide innumerable times, she and Walt enjoyed many trips across the continental United States, Canada and Alaska in their van/camper.
She is survived by two daughters, Pamela Allman of Franklin, NC and Valerie LaHart of Panacea, FL and three grandchildren.
