Obituary

Sara Lenora (Boone) Hooper, 83, of Cullowhee, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2008, after a period of declining health. She was surrounded by her loving family when she passed from them into God's loving embrace.
Lenora was born on April 29, 1924, daughter of the late Lewis A. and Anna May Boone. She was married to Charles Lyman Hooper who died in 1988. She was a member of the Speedwell Baptist Church.
Lenora was the youngest of eleven children. She worked as an LPN at Angel Hospital, Franklin and the St. Joseph Hospital, Asheville. During WWII she worked at an airplane factory in Toledo, Ohio. She was a graduate of Otter Creek High School in Nantahala.
She was an avid gardener and loved nature. She especially loved springtime which allowed her to be outdoors enjoying God's wonderful creation. She took great pride in creating a beautiful landscape for all to enjoy. She was an expert seamstress, gifted musician, cook, and homemaker.
She served as church organist, Sunday School teacher, and WMU leader at Speedwell Methodist Church until health concerns prevented her attendance.
She is survived by three daughters, Anna Teresa Hooper, Laura Yvonne Hooper, Linda Marie and husband Dennis Mallonee all of Cullowhee; four grandchildren: Brian Edward Ferguson and wife Leslie of Greenville, SC; Alicia Marie Griffin and husband Ralph of Riverview, FL; Laura Anna and Michael Cole Mallonee of Cullowhee; four great-grandchildren: William Cody and John Wesley Ferguson of Greenville, SC; and Casey Charles and Haley May Griffin of Riverview, FL. She is also survived by one sister Nellie Jane Williams, whom she loved very much, of Sneedville, TN.
Funeral Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday March 7, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Reeves will officiate. Burial will be in the Briartown Cemetery in Nantahala.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Friday, one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Brian Ferguson, Marty Wilkes, Cole Mallonee, Dennis Mallonee, Jim Boone and Bill Mallonee. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Wesley Ferguson and William Cody Ferguson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Briartown Cemetery Fund, C/O Ronald Gary Cross, 195 Swain Lane, Topton, NC 28781.
Macon Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
