Ruth Elizabeth Nolen went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 30, 2012. Born in Hiawassee, Georgia to Dave and Dora McKinney, she graduated from Towns County High School and later from Cosmetology College. She married Horace "Red" Nolen, and they had a very happy marriage of 64 years. Ruth worked as a beautician for a while at Pearl's Beauty Shop in Franklin and later established Ruth's Beauty Shop in the basement of her home. She outlived many of her loyal customers and there are still some living who have proclaimed no one could fix their hair as nice as she did. Ruth was a member of First Presbyterian Church and very active in the Ruth's Circle. She was secretary treasurer of the JA Flanagan Sunday School class where she established the "Sunshine Fund" to help people in need such as Presbyterian Home for Children, CareNet, etc. As a mother, she was the best. She was always there for her family, many times doing without so they could have a new outfit for a school occasion. To know her was to love her. Her smile was as radiant as the sun. When she smiled you could not help but smile too. She was a perfect example of the Great Depression generation which withstood so much, yet kept hope, faith and trust that God would see them through. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dave and Dora McKinney; siblings, Owen, Evan, Don and Ward McKinney, Effie McKinney Messer and Willie McKinney Phillips.
Surviving are son, Tom (Betsy) Nolen, Loganville, GA; daughter, Ruth Williams (Jim) Franklin; granddaughter, Angela Hoover (Bryan) Monroe, GA; great grandchildren, Molly and Emily Hoover, Monroe, GA and nieces and nephews.
Dear Mom, Grandmom, Great Grandmom and Aunt, your love and beautiful spirit has touched our hearts forever; we thank our Lord for giving you to us. We know you are with God where joy and peace is yours forever.
