Ruth Pearson Long, 101 years old, of 176 MarBob Trail, Otto, North Carolina, died at home on Tuesday, August 11, 2009.
Born and raised in Spartanburg County, she was a daughter of Eva Mae Cox Pearson and John Warren Pearson.
She was an officer and co-owner of Long Printing Company in Spartanburg with her deceased husband Ben F. Long.
Mrs. Long was a member of The Second Presbyterian Church where the Long-West Administration Building was lovingly named in her and Maude West's honor for their lengthy volunteer service on the church staff. She was awarded the Presbyterian Women's Honorary Life Membership for outstanding Christian service.
Survivors are her daughters, Joyce Long Casey and husband Robert Thomas Casey of the home and Janice Long Thoroughman of Spartanburg, South Carolina. Four grandchildren, James Chanslor Thoroughman III of Seattle, Washington (deceased), Robert Thomas Casey Jr. of Dacula, GA, Lynn Thoroughman Hagan of Longmont, Colorado and Cheryl Casey Wray of Prosper, Texas.
Seven great-grandchildren, Krista, Kourtney and Kinsey Casey of Dawsonville, Georgia, Sean Massey of Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, Spencer Massey and Peyton Wray of Prosper, Texas and Willow Michel Hagen of Longmont, Colorado.
Surviving is one sister Sara Pearson Mason of Woodruff, South Carolina and sister-in-law Marguerite Posey Pearson of Eldridge, Maryland.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, at J.F. Floyd Mortuary, followed immediately by Graveside Services at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens at 3:30 p.m. conducted by Reverend Steven H. Rhodes, pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church, Spartanburg, South Carolina.
