Obituary

Ruth Summerrow Crockett, 96, of the Cartoogechaye Community, went to her heavenly reward on Sunday, December 26, 2010.

Born in Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late George C. and Iva Allen Summerrow of Haywood County. She was married in 1948 to the late H. Taylor Crockett who died in 1996. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ralph, Rufus (twin), Lawson and John Summerrow and a sister, Georgia Anderson.

She is survived by two sisters Edna Summerrow and Edith Whisenhunt of Waynesville, and by a brother-in-law John Crockett and wife Shirley. She is also survived by three children, George Crockett of Franklin , Howe Crockett and wife Jan of Vancouver Washington, and Nancy Phillips and husband Richard of Asheville and her beloved granddaughter, Laura Phillips Manavella .

She was raised in the Hazelwood Presbyterian Church. For many years she was a member of Franklin Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. From its founding until her death she was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church. Prior to moving to Macon County she worked as a secretary for A.C. Lawrence Leather Company in Hazelwood. She worked many years for Macon Program for Progress as Administrative Assistant to the Program Director.

Graveside Services will be held at 12 Noon on Wednesday, December 29, at Mount Zion Cemetery. Rev. Ken Jones will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 11:00-12:00 p.m. at Macon Funeral Home.

Memorial donations can be made to Grace Presbyterian Church.
