Roy Woodrow Southard, 94, of 3315 West Old Murphy Road, Franklin, passed away Friday, August 17, 2007.
He was a native of Macon County and life long resident of the Cartoogechaye Community, the son of the late Charles and Florence Sprinkle Southard. He was a Timberman, Dozer Operator and Farmer, and a member of Cartoogechaye Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon since 1946.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ruth Dills Southard, daughter, Linda Austin and husband Lacy of Columbus, Ohio; two sons, Dwight Southard and wife Edna, Tim Southard and wife Ruby all of Franklin; two sisters, Louise Thomas of Pontiac, MI, and Leona Bryant of Mauldin, SC; 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Raymond Southard; two sisters, Bonnie Shay and Letha Southard; four brothers Erine, Burrell, J.D. and Elbert Southard.
The Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 19, at Cartoogechaye Baptist Church where the body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Revs. Carson Gibson, Steve Reeves and Andy Cloer officiating.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Chuck Southard, Brian Southard, Jonathan Southard, Stan Southard, Charles Southard and Joel Alpern will serve as pallbearers. Deacons of Cartoogechaye Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
