Obituary

Rev. Ronald Lewis Odum, 73, of Franklin, NC, went Home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 3, 2010. Born in Bristol, TN, Ron was the son of the late Ted Odum and Verna Smith Odum. He was a US Marine Corps veteran and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was an officer for the Bristol Tennessee Police Department. Ron studied at Emory and Henry College in Emory, VA, graduated from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN and graduated from Columbia Theological Seminary in Atlanta, GA. Ron pastored First Presbyterian Church of Franklin and Morrison Presbyterian Church for 10 years; served as a Chaplain for Angel Medical Center and was a founding member of the Macon Christian Ministerial Association. Ron was one of the founders and the beloved pastor of Cornerstone Evangelical Presbyterian Church from 1984 to present day. He is survived by his wife, Donna Denman Harwell Odum of Franklin, NC; five children, Tami Odum Bennington and husband Rev. James Bennington of Johnson City, TN, Christopher Odum of Johnson City, TN, Katie Harwell Able and husband Chris of Moscow, ID, Captain (USMC) Kirby Harwell of Hampstead, NC and Nicholas Odum of Franklin, NC; three sisters, Jerry Odum Mongle, Phyllis Odum McBroom and Billie Jean Odum Winchell all of Bristol, TN; a brother, Larry Odum of Kingsport, TN; two grandchildren, Aaron Able and Asher Able of Moscow, ID and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 7, at First United Methodist Church. Rev. Tom Grubb will officiate. Ron will lie in state from 10-1:00 p.m. Saturday, at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church. Military Graveside Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, prior to the Celebration of Life at Woodlawn Cemetery. Rev. Tom Musselman will officiate at the Graveside. Pallbearers will be Nelse Bates, Bob Oliver, John Henning, Bruce Tanner, Joe Hall, Fred Eldridge, Joe Camper and Fred Kilday. Church elders will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Macon Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
