Robert Vinson, 93, of Franklin, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2008.

Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late John B. Vinson, Sr. and Mae Belle Conley Vinson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Belle McClure Vinson who died in 1965; two sisters, Emma Erwin and Katherine Hamrick; daughter-in-law Brenda Vinson and son-in-law, Curtis Keener. Robert was a sergeant in the US Army serving during WWII. He was a logger and heavy equipment operator. He loved gospel music, especially listening to his grandchildren sing. He loved to make a garden and share it with his family & friends.

He is survived by six children, Robert Vinson, Jr. and wife Kathy of Union City, CA, Alan Vinson of Otto, Sarah Mae Keener of Clayton, GA, Carol Vanhook and husband Gary of Franklin, Verna Howard and husband Johnny of Clayton, GA and Tony Vinson and wife Lacy of Jupiter, FL; two brothers, John Vinson and Charles Vinson both of Franklin; two sisters, Elizabeth Cearley and Mary Gregory both of Franklin; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; & a number of nieces & nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, December 28, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Shane Watts, Rev. Michael Binger and Rev. Janet Greene will officiate. Burial will be in the Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the VFW Post 7339 & the American Legion Post 108.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, December 27, at Macon Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Vinson, Greg Vinson, Dustin Vinson, Michael Vinson, Gary Vanhook, Johnny Howard, Dick Otto and Zachary Vinson.

Memorial donations may be made to the Asbury Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, C/O Alan Vinson, 1050 River Valley Road, Otto, NC 28763.
