Robert R. "Bob" Rogers, 87, of Franklin, passed away Friday, July 29, 2011.
Born in Franklin Co. IL, he was the son of the late Roscoe Rogers and Grace G. Willis Rogers. Bob was a US Army Veteran and served during WWII. He was a WWII POW and received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart medal. He worked for the US Postal Service. Bob was a Franklin Lions Club Member for 25 years. He served as Secretary and Treasurer; received the Melvin Jones and Jack Stickley awards and Lion of the Year. He volunteered at Angel Hospital. Bob was a member of Snowhill United Methodist Church where he was Lay Leader, Sunday school teacher, Superintendent, choir member and member of the board of trustees.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joanna M. VanWeelden Rogers; four children, Joyce Ann Rogers of Franklin, Robert Charles Rogers of New York City, Judith Kay Rogers Colvin and husband Jim of Tampa, FL and Jeffrey Dwight Rogers and wife Kim of Tampa, FL; a sisters, Bette Beaman and husband Dwight of Franklin; nine grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and three nephews.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 3 at Snowhill United Methodist Church. Rev. Donna Cobb will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-9:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 2 at Macon Funeral Home.
Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers.
