Rita Elizabeth Smith Greene, 94, of Belleair Bluffs, FL, passed away Thursday, October 21, 2010.
She was born in Tutusville, PA, to the late William J. and Elizabeth McDonald Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Patrick Joseph Greene. She was also preceded by two brothers, Father William D. Smith and Francis Smith, as well as two sisters, Helene Prenatt and Mary Anderson. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Robson and husband William of Virginia Beach, VA and Rita Mast and husband Robert of Franklin, NC. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Christopher Robson, Patricia Mundell and husband Matthew, Amanda and Ann Marie Mast, as well as a great grandchild, Escher Mundell. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Rita graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1934 and went on to study Nursing at St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing in Erie, PA., graduating in 1938. She worked as a Registered Nurse and later became a loving wife and mother. She was also a survivor of breast cancer. She enjoyed growing African Violets and playing Bridge and Bingo. A devoted daughter of the Blessed Virgin Mary, she was also a member of a rosary group in FL., and a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Largo, Fl and attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Franklin, NC. She also spent her summers at Canadohta Lake, PA., where she attended our Lady of Fatima Chapel. She was strong in both body, mind and soul throughout her entire life, even in the midst of her final suffering. She died at Angel Hospital in Franklin, NC with her daughter, Rita, by her side.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on October 30, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation 1 hour prior at St. Titus Catholic Church in Titusville, PA with burial at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Titusville.
