Obituary

Richard John Kehoe, 92, passed away at his Franklin, N.C., home on Sunday, June 24, 2018, surrounded by his family, his dogs, and music.

He was born June 16, 1926, in Custer County, Nebraska, the son of Bernard James and Florence Knight Kehoe. In 1934 his family moved to northern New York state, where he grew up on the family dairy farm.

Dick married his forever love, Joyce Blount, on Aug. 29, 1948. In 1957 they moved to Bartow, Fla., with their children.

A carpenter by trade, he retired in 1988 as supervisor of construction for Polk County. After spending a few years traveling between homes, they moved to Franklin full-time.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Bartow, where he served on a number of committees and as host of the annual church talent show. He was active in the Boy Scout program for several years.

In Franklin, he was a member of Snow Hill United Methodist Church, where he had been a Sunday School teacher and choir member.

Dick loved to play the harmonica and sing; he was a tenor with the award-winning chorus Men Macon Music. He also enjoyed woodworking, painting, golf, and reading; and especially loved spending time with his family, his friends, and his canine companions, Miley and Janie. His innate sense of humor, compassion, and good nature were evident until the end. He was a man who exemplified his Christian faith in the way he lived.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; his parents; and three brothers, Pat, Francis, and Darrell.

Survivors include his children, Peggy Anne Kehoe, Jeff Kehoe and his wife, Tina; his sister, Kathleen LaComb; two grandchildren, Regina Seagle and Matthew Pyle Nowalski; three great-grandchildren, Kendyll Taylor, Jesse Seagle and Charley Grace Seagle; and a large extended family.
