Rex Anderson Calloway, of Clarks Chapel Community in Franklin, passed away Friday, October 24, 2008, at Angel Medical Center.
Rex was born on January 5, 1918, in New London, Iowa, the son of the late Orlan Lynn and Gladys Anderson Calloway. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roscoe Calloway. A U.S. Navy veteran, Rex served in the Pacific during World War II. He was a member of Community of Christ Church for eighty years. Rex had a long career with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring as Postmaster of Dania, Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Frances Lankford Calloway whom he married in June of 1935. In addition to his wife, Rex is survived by a brother, Ronald Calloway, formerly of Franklin, now living in Iowa, and five children and their spouses; Wayne Calloway and wife, Jean of Leesburg, Florida, Keith Calloway and wife, Barbara, of Boynton, Florida, Virginia (Kaye) West and husband, Michael of Asheville, Nancy Keel of Coral Springs, Florida, and Kevin Calloway and wife, Martha of Clarks Chapel in Franklin. He also enjoyed 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Rex was a friend to everyone, and he dedicated the last 25 years to sharing the experiences of his life, the strength he gained through his journey, and the message of hope that anyone can be happy.
A Gathering of Friends was held at Macon Funeral Home on Sunday, October 26, 2008, to remember Rex and celebrate his life. Rex will be greatly missed by his family who loved him dearly, and his wide circle of friends.
