Pete E. Phillips Sr., 75, of Franklin, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2012.
Born in Miami, FL, he was the son of the late Edwin E. Phillips and Doris R. Phillips. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rowena Grimes. Horse racing was Pete's great passion and he enjoyed a distinguished twenty year career as a jockey. Retiring from racing in 1970 he entered the food & beverage industry owning several venues including the celebrated Flick Coffee House in Coral Gables, FL. Pete was also very proud to have been a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dana Valibus Phillips; three children, Peter Edwin Phillips Jr. of Greensboro, GA, Lee Phillips Brantley of Savannah, GA, Edward Valibus Phillips of Memphis, TN, and two grandsons, Barron and Bridges Brantley.
No services have been planned at this time.
