Pauline "Polly" Fann Gilbert, 93, of Fredericksburg, VA, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2012.
Born in Pickens County, GA, she was the daughter of the late Clemar Fann and Daisy Savannah Fann. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Norman L. Gilbert, Jr.; sister, Rose Fann and brothers, Stanton and Floyd Fann. After graduating from high school in Marble Hill, GA, Polly's brother, Stanton, provided her college education at Southern Business School in Marietta, GA. She later moved to Blue Ridge, GA, and was employed with Fannin County Bank and lived at the Blue Ridge Hotel where she met her husband Norman. They married in 1942 and she became a loving homemaker. After her children became teenagers, Polly was employed as secretary of her church, First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge. In 1965 Norman was transferred to Franklin and Polly became employed primarily in customer service at the Bank of Franklin and First Union for 18 years. Polly was a member of First Baptist Church in Franklin and long-time supporter and member of the Women's Missionary Union. She will be missed by all who knew her because of her kind ways, warm heart and loving smile.
She is survived by two sons, Norman L. Gilbert, III of Buford, GA, James S. Gilbert of Fredericksburg, VA; brother, Olen Fann of Jasper, GA; sister, Lucille Duggin; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 15th at First Baptist Church. Dr. Robert Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at First Baptist Church.
