Ozias "Ozzie" M. Whitmon, 90, of Franklin, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 26, 2012.
Born in Brilliant, Ala., he was the son of the late Monroe and Virgin Webb Whitmon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Ozzie was proud to be a WWII veteran. He graduated from Bob Jones University and received his Masters Degree from Furman University. As a tax accountant, he was one of the first to use Drake Software. He was a member of Lion's Club International with 41 years of perfect attendance and lifetime member of the American Legion. He was a very active participant of the Senior Games. Ozzie was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church. He frequently quoted his favorite Bible verse, John 16:33. He also was a regular at the Pickin' on the Square, and loved to square dance.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda Light Herman and husband Mark Herman of Franklin; sister, Edrell Sanders of Topeka, Kansas; granddaughter, Keri Vephula of Franklin; great granddaughter, Satori Stewart of Franklin and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 4th, at Holly Springs Baptist Church. Rev. Eddie Trull will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the family to put with their contributions to the Franklin Lion's Club and Macon County Senior Games in honor of Ozzie, C/O Linda Light Herman, 22 September Embers Dr, Franklin, NC 28734.
