Opal Faye Tallent, 60, of Franklin, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2010.
Born in Christiansburg, VA, she was the daughter of the late James Roy Payne, Sr. and Marjorie Kostoff Payne. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Harold Tallent and a sister, Linda Payne Bumgarner. Opal enjoyed gardening, spending time with her grandchildren, taking care of her dogs; hunting ginseng, moss and wildflowers. She was a caregiver and was a Baptist by faith.
She is survived by a daughter, Brenda M. Holt and her fiancée Michael Jones of Franklin; three brothers, Larry Payne and wife Stella and James Payne, Jr. and wife Patricia both of Haywood County and Samuel Payne and wife Gail of Franklin; one sister, Brenda Payne Ewart and husband Don of Haywood County; one half sister, Susie Shaw and husband Verne of South Carolina; five grandchildren, Jimmy Holt and wife Amanda, Kenneth Holt, Robin Holt, Orry Holt and Ashleigh Jones; one great granddaughter, Kaitlyn Holt; one step grandchild, Brittany Jones; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service for Opal and her late husband, Harold will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 8, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home.

James Harold "Boat" Tallent, 69, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008, at his residence. He was a native of Macon County, the son of the late Harve and Annie Bates Tallent. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, he served on the SS Caperton Destroyer. He was a self-employed concrete finisher, and had worked for Fluer-Daniels Construction. He owned and operated Dura Carpet Cleaning.
He is survived by his wife, Opal Payne Tallent, his two daughters, Vivian Hay and husband Dennis of Elberton, Ga. and Kimberly Butler and husband Lee of Franklin; two sons, Chris Tallent and wife Debbie and Danny Tallent all of Otto, N.C.; a special friend and brother-in-law, Sam Payne; two sisters, Edith Bates and Reva Jones both of Franklin; one brother, Wayne Tallent of Franklin,; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.
