Obituary

Olga Mae Zuraw Barrett, 86, of North Charleroi, died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, July 29, 2010, in the Residence at the Hilltop following a lengthy illness. She was born Dec. 11, 1923, in North Charleroi, she was the daughter of the late Wasyl and Julia Gall Zuraw. Olga graduated from Charleroi High School in the class of 1941, and from Bertha Leonard Business School in 1943. That year she began working as a secretary for the Lee Norse Co. and later became the executive secretary for the Chief of Metallurgy at Pittsburgh Steel. In 1970, she moved to St. Clairsville, Ohio, to work for Wheeling-Pittsburgh until her retirement. In 1981, she was united in marriage to Branson Barrett, of Franklin, N.C., who preceded her in death in 1988. In her early life, Mrs. Barrett was affiliated with Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church of Charleroi, where she sang in the choir. Olga was a member of the Ahtena Club and the Friends of the John K. Tener Library. She will be remembered by many for her successful library fundraising through her creative boutique table. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and shopping. Olga is survived by her youngest brother, Vic Zuraw and his wife, Maggie, of Washington, Pa.; two sisters, Ann Zuraw, of Canonsburg, and Jane Wheeler, of Orlando, Fla.; three nephews, Pete Zuraw and his wife, Zandra, of Natick, Mass., Mike Zuraw and his wife, Elizabeth, of Lancaster, and Bruce Wheeler and his wife, Cindy, of Enterprise, Fla.; three nieces, Vicki Lesure and her husband, Kim, of Cave Creek, Ariz., Patti Mitchell and her husband, Jamie, of Orlando, Fla., Julie Zuraw and Fegens Bonarchie, of Brooklyn, N.Y.: two grandnephews, Calvin and Quinn Zuraw, of Natick, Mass.; cousin, Paul Dudick, of Belle Vernon; three stepdaughters, Elaine Holland, Loretta Cloer Dale West all of Franklin, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Mary Zuraw, of Speers Hill; and three special friends, Lois Howe, Ella Colvin and Helen Andreas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Nick, Walter and Pete Zuraw; and a niece, Cathy Zuraw. There will be no public visitation. Burial will be in the Charleroi Cemetery. Plans for a gathering of friends will be held at a later date. Anyone wishing to memorialize Mrs. Barrett may send contributions to the John K.
