Obituary
Martin William Kangas, 91, of Franklin, NC formerly of Ashtabula, OH passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2007.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, he lived in Ashtabula for 64 years before moving to Franklin, NC in 1977. He was the son of the late William Kangas and Martha Spetz Kangas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William Matt Kangas who died in 2004 and his step dad, William E. Kosonen. Martin was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran during WWII and retired from Cleveland Electrical Illuminating Co. presently known as First Energy where he worked as a nuclear power inspector. He was a member of the American Legion Post 108; member of the Illuminating Company Alumni Club; was a talented actor, musician and singer and was associated with several actors guilds in Ohio. Martin was an avid sportsman enjoying hunting and golf and was involved in Junior Achievement in Ohio.
He is survived by his wife, Isabelle Elizabeth Saidler Kangas; one son, Kenneth Martin Kangas and wife Victoria of Lexington, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Megan Kangas of Lexington, Kentucky, Matt Kangas of Omaha, Nebraska & Jennifer Kangas of Cleveland, Texas.
