Obituary

Marjorie Gwendolyn Ford Shower, 89, of Franklin, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2011.

Born in Sand Springs, OK, she was the daughter of the late Robert Daniel Ford and Phoebe L. Hurd Ford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Arnold Shower; grandson, Edmund Glenn Shower, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Brenda Overstreet Shower. Marjorie was a 1939 graduate of Sand Springs High School in Oklahoma and married William Arnold Shower on October 2, 1939. She graduated from the University of Tampa with her BS degree in 1963 and from the University of South Florida with her MA in education in 1976. Marjorie retired in 1982 after teaching for 19 years in elementary schools in Oneco, Ft. Myers Beach, Bonita Springs and Lakeland Florida. She learned the Cherokee language at Western Carolina University, of which she was very proud. She made classroom materials in the Cherokee language for the teachers in Cherokee, NC. In addition, she compiled and published two Cherokee language dictionaries. Many of the materials eventually ended up in print. Marjorie was a member of Iotla Baptist Church.

She is survived by three children, William Arnold Shower Jr. and wife Ann of Franklin, Edmund Glenn Shower of Lakeland, FL and Gwendolyn P. Woodruff and husband Richard of Naples, FL; thirteen grandchildren and twenty seven great grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 29, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Jeff King will officiate. Burial will be in the Iotla Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
