Keith Brenton Spriggel, Sr., 92, of Franklin, NC and North Port, FL passed away Friday, August 8, 2008.
Born January 9, 1916, at home in Munroe Falls, Ohio, he was the son of the late Emanuel Jacob Spriggel and Frances Folsom Brumbaugh Spriggel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Sewell, John and Donald and a sister, Geraldine. While attending High School in Stow, Ohio he started the school newspaper called "The Stowic" and labored in his father's saw mill. Keith graduated as Salutorian and earned varsity letters in football, basketball and baseball. After High School he attended Kent State University, serving as varsity pitcher for the baseball team for three years. During this time he worked as the local news editor of the Daily Courier Tribune. He graduated cum laude in 1940. After working for the Courier Tribune for five years, he went to work for the Akron Beacon Journal in 1942. He was a reporter and feature writer and later became an assistant city editor and assistant Sunday editor. In 1953 he took a position at the Campbell Ewald Co. in Detroit, Michigan as Advertising Executive. (They did advertising for the Chevrolet Division of General Motors) His twenty-five year career covered publicity and public relations projects which included the All American Soap Box Derby, Junior Olympics, Junior Miss Pageant and introduction of new car models such as the Corvette. While working on the Soap Box Derby, he was the host for personalities such as Ronald Reagan, The Bonanza TV Cast, Dinah Shore, Joe E. Brown, Don Ameche, Andy Divine, Chuck Connors (The Rifleman) and many more. He retired in 1978 and has resided in Michigan, Florida, Georgia and North Carolina.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elsie Schoch Spriggel; one daughter, Candace Ann Sable of Frankin; two sons, Keith B. Spriggel, Jr. of North Port, FL and Mark Allen Spriggel of Venice, FL; four grandchildren, Stacy M. Sable-Fagan of VA, Sean David Sable of GA, Brenton Keith Spriggel and Brittany Keith Spriggel both of TN.
