Obituary

Joy Shumate, 72, of Franklin, formerly of Middlefield, OH, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 11, 2013.
Born in Scotland, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Ewell Norman Dunsworth and Jonnie Wade Hiland Dunsworth. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Ray Shumate. Joy was a gospel singer; she and her husband owned Oak Productions in Middlefield, Ohio. She was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church, where she was a soloist, member of the church choir, member of the Mary-Martha Sunday school class and directed the children's choir.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Jane Lofton of Franklin; three nephews, George D. Lofton and James D. Lofton both of St. Petersburg, FL and Benn D. Lofton of Safety Harbor, FL and five great-nieces and nephews, Audrianna Jo-An Lofton, William Dunsworth Lofton, James Wyatt Lofton, Emily Joanne Lofton and Lauren Katherine Lofton.
Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 20th at Holly Springs Baptist Church. Rev. Brandon Breedlove will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be George Lofton, James Lofton, Benn Lofton, Hollis Walker, Richard Young and Scott Cummings. James Wyatt Lofton will serve as Honorary Pallbearer.
Memorial donations may be made to West Care Hospice, 132 Sylva Plaza, Sylva, NC 28779 or hospice of your choice or to Holly Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 366 Holly Springs Church Rd, Franklin, NC 28734.
