Joseph "Joe" Garrell Woodard, 70, of Lawndale, NC, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2013.

Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late William Robert Woodard and Nina B. Brooks Woodard Peek. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Guyer and a brother, Jackson Earl Woodard. He was a retired Superintendent in road construction; attended Carpenter Grove Baptist Church, Lawndale, NC, was a member of the Moose Lodge and loved to fish.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Stewart Woodard; three children, Joseph Garrell Woodard, Jr. of Montana, Steven G. Wilson of California and Richard G. Woodard of Charlotte, NC; step daughter, Tonka and Jody Posey of Candler, NC; two brothers, William Hoyt Woodard and wife Garnetta of Candler, NC and Edward Cleveland Woodard of Bryson City, NC; one grandson, Dylan Posey and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 9, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Jerry Welch and Rev. Chris Hall will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverview Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-9:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at Macon Funeral Home.
