Joseph "Joe" Roper, 81, of Franklin, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2008.
Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Harley Roper and Bertha Garner Roper. In addition to his parents he was preceeded in death by one brother, Hal Roper and four sisters, Barbara Roper, Edna Houston, Edith Anderson and Gertrude McKinney. Joe was a licensed builder and electrician. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved the mountains of WNC. Joe volunteered and was involved with many building projects of Kingdom Halls and Assembly Halls of Jehovah's Witnesses in North and South America. He was also a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Joe is survived by his wife Mary Dryman Roper of 59 years; three children, Neal Roper and wife Sharon, Keith Roper and wife Becky both of Franklin, NC, and Awa Wright and husband Terry of Eastanollee, GA; four siblings, Max Roper of Fairfax, VA, Agnes Calhoun of Morristown, TN, Evelyn Evans of Warner Robbins, GA, and Helen Preston of Philadelphia, PA; one grand-daughter, Leah Freebern; three grand-sons, Gavin and Garrett Roper and Levi Wright; two great-grand-daughters, Allison and Lola Freebern; along with many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008 in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, on Prentiss Bridge Road. Adam Raimond will officiate.
