John Adam "Dutsy" Wakenshaw, age 69, passed away Saturday May 7th, in Franklin, N.C. Born March 31, 1942 in Springfield, Illinois, he was preceded in death by his parents, Adam F. and Beatrice (Sanders) Wakenshaw. Graduating from Feitshans High School in Springfield, Illinois, he later attended the University of Illinois. He married Connie Jane Ivey in 1958 and had two children, Mark and Ivey. Adam was a pilot for Eastern Airlines from 1965 until 1987, when he retired as Captain. He later married Geraldine Prince in 1992. Adam enjoyed boating and always had a project going in his wood shop. He also loved reading and spending time on his computer emailing his friends and family. He had a great sense of humor and was a loving and caring father and grandfather. He leaves behind his wife, Geraldine Wakenshaw, son, Mark Wakenshaw, daughter, Ivey (Doug) Deitz, 3 step children, Lisa (Russ) Chastain, Keith Stamey, and Tammy (Ken) Shepherd, 8 grandchildren, Jesse & Matthew Deitz, Mandy Taylor, Amber Taylor, Christopher, Keshia and Brooke Stamey, and Brandan Shepherd, and several great grandchildren, aunts and cousins. Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 14th at 11 am. at the Panther Creek Baptist Church in Almond, NC. with arrangements made by Macon Funeral Home, Franklin, NC. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park in Springfield, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society. The family would also like to thank Dr. Versi Aruwani and all the medical staff and folks from Hospice at the Sylva and Franklin Hospitals.
