John Baxter Vinson, Jr., of Franklin, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 14, 2018.
Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late John Baxter Vinson, Sr., and Mae Belle Conley Vinson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wives Doris L. Vinson and Dorothy M. Vinson; two brothers, Robert Vinson and Charles Vinson; four sisters, Emma Lou Erwin, Katherine Hamrick, Elizabeth Cearley and Mary Gregory; one son, Richard L. Vinson.
John was a WWII Army Veteran, serving in the Panama Canal. He also was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 8849 in Middle River, MD
Mr. Vinson was a diesel mechanic and lived in Baltimore, MD for many years. John attended The First Presbyterian Church of Franklin, NC during his younger years and lastly Asbury United Methodist Church in Otto, NC.
He loved singing and playing music on his guitar while sitting on the front porch. Mr. Vinson loved his family and friends. He valued hard work and had a gracious heart in everything he did.
John is survived by three sons, John D. Vinson of Shrewsbury, PA; James A. Vinson of Felton, PA; and Joseph O. Vinson of Albany, NY; one daughter, Susan K. Stevens of Franklin, NC; 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 28, 2018 in the Chapel of the Macon Funeral Home. Reverend Janet Greene will officiate.
Burial will be at the Baltimore National Cemetery, 5501 Frederick Ave., Catonsville, MD 21228, Friday, August 10, 2018 at 1pm (meet at entrance at 12:30pm).
