John Robert "Bob" McGovern, 77, of Franklin, passed away Friday, November 11, 2011.

He was born in Atkinson County, Georgia, July 19, 1934, to Peter McGovern and Thelma McKinnon McGovern. His family moved to Florida in 1937. He was a resident of Daytona Beach and Port Orange, FL for 54 years. He was employed for 34 years by Florida Power and Light Company in various capacities and retired as cable locator in 1991. He and his wife, Connie, moved to Franklin, NC in 1993. He was a beloved member of First Baptist Church, Franklin, where he was known as the "unofficial official" photographer. He loved taking pictures of the activities of the church. He especially enjoyed taking pictures of the Appalachian Trail Hikers at the "hikers' breakfast" and giving them a copy to send home to friends and families. He served in the U.S. Navy, was a member of the Macon Users' Group and former past president; he also formerly served on the Humane Society Board.

He was predeceased by two sons, William Michael and James Lyle. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Connie; one son, J.R. of Valperiso, FL; one step-daughter, Becky Krisko of Boise, ID; two grandsons, Eric and Collin; one step grandson, Zachary Krisko; three sisters, Mary Astringer, Virginia Quaid and Carolyn Fox all of Deland, FL and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial Service will be held at 12 Noon on Monday, November 14, at First Baptist Church. Dr. Robert Brown will officiate.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
