John Marsh Lathrop, 78, beloved husband, father and grandfather, went to be with the Lord on August 2, 2019.

Born in New London, CT he was the son of the late Walter F. Lathrop and Janet Marsh Lathrop. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John Kerby Lathrop; and brother, Jim Lathrop. John was a member of Iotla Baptist Church where he served as Assistant Music Director. He loved to work in his yard, listen to music, play piano, and be outside. He moved to Franklin in 1974 and established John Lathrop Electrical Contracting Company. John will always be remembered for his compassion for others and his sweet spirit.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Lois Campell Lathrop; children, Rev. Kerry Lathrop (Kim) of Waynesville, Greg Lathrop (Karen) of Asheville, and Amy Lathrop of Franklin; step children, Gloria Franklin (Hugh) of Franklin, Jerry Oliver (Sharon) of Asheville, and Randy Oliver (Brenda) of Sylva; sister, Judy Cashman of Wellington, FL; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:30 pm, Thursday, August 8 at Iotla Baptist Church. Rev. Brandon Breedlove, Rev. Steve Reeves, and Rev. Kerry Lathrop will officiate. Burial will be in Iotla Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Iotla Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Jim Hedden, Mark Dove, Bucky Asby, David Pangle, Walt Lovett, and Chuck Nolen.

The members of Iotla Baptist Church Choir will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
