John "Troy" Hurst, 91, of Franklin, entered into rest on Sunday, July 31, 2005.
A native of Macon County, he was the son of the late Albert Hurst and Nellie Raby Hurst. He was the oldest male member of Liberty Baptist Church where he served as a trustee and as building fund treasurer and he was an usher for 10 years without missing a service. He will be remembered for his love of his family, church and community.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Inez Hall Hurst; one granddaughter, Jo Zachary and husband Tubby of Franklin; two great grandchildren, Tammy McClure and husband Mark of Franklin and Travis "Bo" Cunningham of Murphy, NC; and three great great grandchildren, Robbie and Cassie McMahan and Tyler Cunningham; one sister, Laura Belle Childers of Murfreesboro, TN; three half brothers, Howard and J.C. Hurst both of Franklin and Gary Neil Shook of Seneca, SC; three half sisters, Annie Ruth Easterwood of Orange Park, FL, Dorothy Lee Head of Seneca, SC and Patti Cooke of Aumsville, Oregon.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 3, at Liberty Baptist Church. Rev. Andy Cloer, Rev. Wesley Hooper and Rev. Charles Stevens will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 2, at Macon Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Joe Allen, Joe Allen, Jr., Clay Cogdill, Robert Shepherd, Raymond Shepherd and Bob Simons.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Dorsey Elmore, Les Vickers, Lloyd Allen, Dennis Freeman and Roy Ramsey.
