John C. Ellis, 85, of Austin, TX, formerly of Franklin, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018.

Born in Oakhurst, NJ, he was the son of the late George H. Ellis and Helen Regina Carr Ellis. John was a retired Sergeant in the US Air Force; member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Austin, TX and former member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Franklin, NC.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Catherine Welch Ellis; sons, John W. Ellis (Katheryn) of Austin, TX and Mark S. Ellis (Sean Dobruck) of Franklin, NC; granddaughter, Karen Garner (Robert); grandson, David Ellis; great granddaughter, Amanda Garner and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 23 at the Basilica of St. Lawrence, 97 Haywood Street, Asheville, NC. Burial will be in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain, NC.

There will be a gathering of friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, Monday, October 22 at Macon Funeral Home.
