John B. Childers Jr., 70, of Sylva, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2011.

Born in Jackson Co. NC, he was the son of the late John B. Childers Sr. and Hannah Jeanette Cabe Childers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Robert Childers. John went to Southwestern Community College where he received a degree in masonry and helped build Founder's Hall at SCC. He was in the first class to graduate from SCC. He loved to bowl and was a member of the Dogwood League. John was a member of Old Savannah Baptist Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Jean Scott and husband Gary of Sylva; ex-wife, Pauline Terrell and husband Phil of Franklin; sisters, Ivalee Taylor and Betty Frady both of Whittier, NC, Marie Swanger of Waynesville, Joyce Dupree of Sylva and Terrie Hinson of Myrtle Beach, SC; brother, Ray Childers of Cullowhee, NC; two grandsons, Travis Scott and wife Courtney and Tyler Scott; great grandson, Johnny Scott and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 25 at Old Savannah Baptist Church. Rev. Avery Brown and Rev. Eddie Stillwell will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
