Joanne Keck, 78, of Franklin, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2007.
Born in Kendallville, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Harry E. Culbertson and Rosa Calkins Culbertson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Grant Keck who died in 1975 and a sister, Rosemary Gregory Matthews. Joanne grew up in Manhasset, NY and graduated in 1950 from Southern Seminary and Junior College (currently Southern Virginia University) with an associate's degree. Joanne and John raised their three sons in Port Washington, NY, where she worked as a nursery school teacher. Grandchildren brought her to Franklin, and she continued her work in early childhood education as a preschool teacher for Macon Program for Progress Head Start. Joanne was an active member of the Franklin Covenant Church and helped in the church office using her computer skills. After retirement, she published the Pruitt House Adult Daycare Newsletter and volunteered at South Macon Elementary. She was an energetic, loving grandmother. Her hobbies included shopping, reading, puzzles, and collecting recipes.
She is survived by three children, James Grant Keck of Redwood City, CA, William Harry Keck and wife Georgette of Franklin and Richard John Keck and wife Danni of Houston, Texas; one sister, Susan Berran and husband Robert; one sister-in-law, Carol Barone; seven grandchildren; Mei-Le, Laura, Jennie, Billy, Carolyn, Kathryn, and Caitlin and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, at Franklin Covenant Church. Rev. John Makinson will officiate. Burial will be in the Nassau Knolls Cemetery, Port Washington, NY.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, at Macon Funeral Home.
