Jesse Dillard Markum was full of life, wit and humor, which he kept until the end. He is now with His Savior, The Lord Jesus Christ. He was a very hard worker and stonemason by trade. He has been in the masonry business for 50 plus years. He was a true "Dr. of Rock" as he would say. He built four homes here in Macon County and many others elsewhere. He loved his family and friends. At times he was very demanding, but that is what has made them people of character. Most of all He was devoted to Yahweh and shared his beliefs with all those that gave him opportunity. He tried to live his life as a witness for the Lord God of Israel. He tried to walk in His ways, and keep His commands. Not saying he was perfect but that he tried. He loved his garden, planting apple trees and flowers everywhere. He was a very generous man giving away vehicles and whatever he has to help people out. His smile would light up his whole face.
He was born July15th 1930 in Blair Oklahoma, to Everett Markum and Carrie Lorene (Dennis) Markum. He is survived by his wife of 34 yrs. Regina Cleaveland Markum, 2 sisters Lavona Joy Beck of Santa Anna Calif, and Sondra Kaye Millard of Reno Nevada, one Brother James Garwin Markum of Chicago Ill. Six Children James Markum of Colo.Springs Colo. Cynthia Markum of Cortez Colo Jed Markum, Mike Markum both of Fayetteville Ark. Andrew Markum of Franklin, and Anniemae Camiolo of Cashiers. 9 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, April 24 at the home of Jesse and Regina Markum, 309 Mountain Breeze Road, Franklin, NC.
