James Edward Williams, 83, of Franklin, passed away Monday, January 23, 2012.
Born in Macon Co., he was the son of the late Frank Jenkins Williams and Maude Leona Adams Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Keith Edward Williams; a brother, Earl Jacob Williams and sister, Marilyn Emma Williams Holland Marsh. James was a US Army veteran and served in the Korean War with the 7th Infantry. He loved working with cattle and had a passion for hunting. James was a dedicated member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church where he served as a Superintendent, Sunday school teacher, and Deacon. In addition, he devoted his time and efforts to the upkeep of the cemetery and church facilities.
He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Wilson of Sylva and Karen Fouts and husband Gerald of Franklin; brother, Ray Allen Williams of Anchorage, AK; seven grandchildren, Tonya Snider of Sylva, Brandon Wilson of Cashiers, Amanda Dowdle of Franklin, Zachary Fouts of Franklin, Tiffany Henry of Sylva, Dustin and Justin Williams of Sylva; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 26, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Ray Fox, Rev. Benny Bagwell and Rev. David Powell will officiate. Committal will be in the Mountain Grove Baptist Church with full military rites conducted by American Legion Post 108 and VFW Post 7339 at the graveside.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers. Granddaughters and great granddaughters will serve as flower bearers and great grandsons will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
