Obituary
James P. "J.P." Shuford, Jr., 87, of Franklin, passed away Friday, January 29, 2010.
Born in Barnardsville, NC, he was the son of the late James P."Phinie" Shuford, Sr. and Hattie Elizabeth Shuford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Elizabeth Mullis; four brothers, Bill, John R., Orph and Jule and two sisters, Lillian Sanford and Sally Kate Creasman. He was a US Army veteran of WWII and was an active member and deacon of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. J.P. moved to Franklin and began working for Zickgraf Lumber Company. He later worked for Augusta Lumber Co., Binswanger Glass Company and West Building Materials. He loved to read and garden.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lilla Wall Shuford; two sons, Jim Shuford and wife Sally of Bradenton, FL and Ray Shuford and wife Kristine of Sarasota, FL; two grandchildren, Julie Shuford and Mike Daughtry and wife Catrine; and one great grandchild, Dacey Daughtry.
Funeral Service will be held at 11 am Tuesday, February 2, at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. Rev. Tommy Fouts and Rev. Guy Duvall will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with graveside rites conducted by the VFW Post 7339 and the American Legion Post 108.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Deacons of Ridgecrest Baptist Church will serve as Pallbearers.
Memorial donations can be made to the Ridgecrest Baptist Church or Angel Hospice.
