James "Sam" Pinkerton Rowland, 86, of Franklin, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016.
Raised in Macon County, he was the son of the late Harry Pinkerton Rowland and Nanny Susan Parrish Rowland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John William Rowland and four sisters, Melba Hardwick, Pauline Holland, Mary Slaughter and Jackelyn Sargeante. James loved watching Braves baseball, writing, singing and dancing. He was a member of Mt. Hope Baptist Church. Sam was a US Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.
He is survived by two brothers, Harry Philip Rowland of Franklin and Daniel Boone Rowland of Macon, GA; two sisters, Nancy Shropshire of Brandon, MS and Shirley Palmer of Franklin and several nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 19 with Military rites conducted by VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108.
Macon Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
