Obituary

James (Pawpaw) Allen Plemmons, 84, of Shady Spring, WV, passed away February 22, 2012, at the VA Medical Center in Beckley.
Born August 18, 1927, in Haywood County, NC, a son of the late William B and Martha Plemmons.
Jim was a retired Army veteran where he served in Germany at the end of WWII through Vietnam.
He moved to Beckley in 1967 on a final tour of duty with the Army. After retiring from the Army he settled in Daniels. He went to work for DOL Mine Academy as a maintenance worker in Beaver. There he was affectionately known as Buzzard Bait. He retired from federal service at the age of 70.
Jim's family was his life and he had two favorite hobbies, Bingo at VFW Post 32 and Mountain State RVA#57 Bingo, and watching ACC basketball, especially Duke.
He was preceded in death by his wife Delma (Della) Robbins Plemmons on September 14, 1994.
Survivors include two sisters and one brother, all of Waynesville, NC, Lucille Wood, Altha Smith and Doyle Plemmons. Children, Sandy Herold and husband Douglas of Shady Spring, Keith Plemmons and life companion Donna Milam of Graham, NC, and Stevie Plemmons of Shady Spring. Granddaughters, Stephanie Chlebowski, Tara Britton, Ashley Plemmons, Jamie Plemmons, Hannah Herold, Maggie Dean, and grandson, Logan Plemmons, and four great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the kind and caring staff at the Beckley VA Medical Center who took care of Jim.
Service of remembrance will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Peace Chapel in Beckley with family members speaking. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity, where Beckley VFW Post 32 Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites.
Visitation will start at 1 p.m. and last until service time on Tuesday at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Beckley.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
