James Dewitt Nichols, 86, of Asheville, formerly of Franklin, passed away Monday, November 19, 2018.

Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late James and Martha Nichols. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Ruth Cabe, Nellie Jamison and Lorene "Tib" Franklin and a brother, Charles Jack Nichols. James was a US Navy veteran. He was a member of Union United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Pearl Nichols; son, Michael James Nichols (Vickie); step children, Donald Ray Plumb, Jerry Wayne Plumb, Bruce Edward Plumb and Susan Renee Grandfield; ten grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 1st in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Janet Greene will officiate.
