Obituary

James "Jim" Shipman Munger, 83 of Franklin, passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2021.

Jim was born in Macon County to the late William and Lona Crane Munger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Gene Munger, Martha Owens, Anne Holley, Fred Munger; and son-in-law, Steven Nylund

Jim was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church and enjoyed Bowling and Golfing.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Peggy Smith Munger; children, Cindy Nylund of Highlands, Barbara Ann Hedden (Gene) of Lafayette AL, William Jess Munger (Michelle) of Highlands NC, Lila Shearl (John) of Franklin NC, and Matthew Sheffield of Franklin NC; Siblings, Andy Munger of Seneca SC, and John Munger of Sataloch GA; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A service will be held on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at Blue Valley Baptist Church at 2 pm.

Rev. Dale Cannon will officiate.

The Family will receive friends and loved ones on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, from 1-2 pm.

Burial to follow at Blue Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Nylund, Jason Wilbanks, Adam Hedden, Alex Heddin, Tyler Munger, Allen Shearl, Michael Shearl and Jared Shearl.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Hedden, John Shearl, Dennis Perkins, Thomas Cummings, and Tim Dietrich.

From the intersection of Hwy. 64 and Hwy. 28 in downtown Highlands, NC, take Hwy. 28 toward Walhalla, SC. Go about 6 miles. Turn left into the driveway of Blue Valley Baptist Church, which is adjacent to Mack Wilson Road. The cemetery is on the hill and to the left of the church building.
