Obituary

James Carter Mason, 66, of Franklin, NC, passed away from a rare pulmonary illness at Emory Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta, GA.

Carter was in Blount County, Alabama and moved to Franklin, NC in 1965. He was the son of the late Rigdon Mason and Odessa Nix Mason. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elaine Ingram Mason who died in 1982. He graduated from Samford University in Birmingham, AL. Carter was owner of Plaza Pharmacy and a local pharmacist since 1965. He was a car enthusiast and collector and enjoyed playing golf. He was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Mason; three children, Greg Mason and wife, Susan; Chris Mason and wife, Lori and Jennifer Thurman and husband Louis; six grandchildren; two sisters, Faye Brown and Helen Hargett and husband, Huel; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 16, at First United Methodist Church. Rev. Tommy Fouts and Rev. Wayne Allen will officiate. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, September 15, at Macon Funeral Home.

Nephews will serve as Pallbearers.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Henry Wall, Larry Cloer, Steve McElreath and Bob Kelly.

Memorial donations may be made to the Franklin Day Break Rotary Scholarship Fund, PO Box 967, Franklin, NC 28744 or one's favorite charity.

Macon Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
