Obituary

James Dock "J.D." Parrish, 79, of Franklin, passed away Friday, June 8, 2012.

Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late William Roane Parrish and Wilma Hall Parrish. Grandson of the late Dock A. and Pearl Bradley Hall. J.D. was a U.S. Army veteran; member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and retired from Duke Power. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying gardening and hunting and he loved spending times with his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Christine Peek Parrish; son, Jeff Parrish and fiancé Marie Bryant of Franklin; daughter, Karen Woodard and husband Mike of Stoneville, NC; two grandchildren, Michaela Woodard and Parrish Woodard and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, June 10 at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Jim Dusek, Rev. John Rogers, Rev. Roy Lowe and Rev. Wiley Gibson will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-5 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Roper, Barney Bryant, Dale Morgan, Roger Bishop, Bob Guy and Jim Brown. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary Franks, Boyd Holbrooks, Bernard Huggins, Weaver Shuler, Todd Mathis, Dicky Gibson, Otis Welch, Terry Moffitt and Alfred "Cotton" Posey.

Memorial donations can be made to the Oak Grove Baptist Church, C/O Evelyn Hughes, 190 Dean Drive, Franklin, NC 28734.

Macon Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
